EAR WAX REMOVAL

Affordable, quick and pain free earwax removal in Ipswich, Suffolk.

It can take a long time to get an appointment with a GP or practice nurse to have wax removed; indeed many GP practices no longer offer the service.

At All About Hearing, we have appointments available most days. Our specially trained Audiologists offer earwax removal in relaxed surroundings and follow stringent safety guidelines allowing plenty of time with all our patients to remove wax, in a safe and gentle way.

There are three recognised methods of earwax removal and the most appropriate will be selected for each patient based on the anatomy of their ear, case history and the position and the density of the wax.

We use video otoscopy before and after the procedure to show the health of the ear and that we have successfully removed the wax.

If required, patients benefit from the added support of a hearing screening after wax removal to identify any potential hearing issues.

Patients can book without the need for a GP referral.

Whilst earwax has a number of positive functions, it can sometimes block the ear canal and lead to discomfort or temporary hearing loss.

Earwax removal methods

Microsuction

Microsuction uses a tiny medical vacuum to delicately lift the wax from the ear canal. This procedure is carried out under direct vision through a head-worn microscope or high powered microscope, to achieve maximum patient comfort and safety. This ensures they can see the ear canal in detail throughout the procedure.

Ear irrigation

Irrigation is the most traditional method of earwax removal using a purpose-made irrigation machine. Water is gently applied to the ear canal using a variable pressure control to flush out the wax. This method is a good option if the wax is soft and deep in the canal. However, this method is not suitable for anyone with a perforated ear drum or an ongoing ear infection.

Instrumentation

For instrumentation, our practitioners use specialist tools, such as a curette, to gently remove wax from the outer part of the ear canal. This is mainly used in conjunction with another form of removal and/or to remove any foreign bodies, such as a dome from a hearing system.

How do I know if I have blocked ears?

Here are some common symptoms associated with a build up of excessive earwax:

  • Trouble hearing, either during a conversation or watching TV
  • Ear aches and pains
  • Itchiness from within your ear
  • The feeling of blocked ears or pressure
  • Popping, crackling or other abnormal sounds
  • Regular discharge from your ears
  • Tinnitus, a consistent ‘ring’ or buzz in your ears
  • A feeling of losing your balance

None of these symptoms are very pleasant but thankfully ear wax removal is a fairly simple procedure.

Affordable relief from earwax

Earwax treatment: £60 (both ears)

Over recent years many GP surgeries have stopped their earwax removal service all together and it's important that patients can achieve the relief they need from blocked ears. That's why we've kept our prices as affordable as we can.

Consultation, video otoscopy (before and after images), wax removal using microsuction or ear irrigation and post treatment advice. All performed by a registered Audiologist.

Ear irrigation can be provided as a home visit. We cover a 10 mile radius from the centre of Ipswich. Anything outside of this area would be charged at an additional mileage rate, which we can quote for prior to a visit. Please note that there is an additional charge of £50 for home visits.

Our patients always say it best...

"A very quick and professionally executed service! My ears were deeply blocked with earwax and my hearing was dull as a result.

The procedure to clear my ears out was swift and painless. The Audiologist made me feel calm throughout and explained in detail everything she was doing.

I can hear 10 times better now, which is amazing!"
